Superthermal Proton and Electron Fluxes in the Plasma Sheet Transition Region and Their Dependence on Solar Wind Parameters

To study further the factors and mechanisms controlling 10–150 keV particle fluxes in inner magnetosphere, we investigate empirically their behavior nightside transition region (6–14 Re) depending on solar wind parameters taken at different time lags. We aim to establish hierarchy of predictors (V, N, Pd, Ekl = VByz sin2(θ/2), etc.) optimal range delays, both distance local time. use THEMIS 5-min averaged observations energetic proton electron 2007–2018 near plasma sheet midplane build regression models exploring combination predictors, delays up 24 h. The model obtained shows that protons electrons are controlled differently by parameters: influenced equally Vsw Ekl, whereas mostly Pd less Ekl. found a wide is involved energy. Specifically, affects with h (or more), exhibiting long innermost regions. As regards mechanism influence, Vsw-related flux changes large and, extent, established route energy flow from eventually, magnetosphere. also identified new parameter, NBL cos2(θ/2), which helps reveal loss processes region.
